Spanking Images in Advertising and Consumer Products

Spanking images in particular, and other forms of corporal punishment (C.P.), were commonly depicted on a variety of consumer products through the twentieth century and earlier. These images were usually placed on ephemeral items and included: postcards, birthday cards, wine labels, general consumer product advertising, magazine covers, calendars, comics, and even within children’s educational material. How times have changed! With the increasing tide of political correctness and the general change in attitudes, C.P.-related imagery has all but entirely disappeared from advertising and general consumer items. This reference illustrates examples from North America, the United Kingdom and Europe, in various categories. Where possible, prices realised or market value indications are provided. While of interest to ephemera collectors, this may be of utility to those who study the changing trends in social behaviour, political correctness, liberalisation of society or the dissolution of C. P. in these countries.
