The Snow Pile at the end of First Street

When a quart of milk was twenty-three cents and girls giggled behind your back, a young boy found solace among his peers and sometimes on top of snow piles at the end of driveways. A weeklong Christmas recess lasted a lifetime without the burdens of proper society. Homework assignments and earmuffs fell by the wayside as a band of suddenly wayward youths found imagination at the end of a street in the form of a snow pile. As it is with most fairy tales and fantasies, ogres and creatures of unknown origin disrupt a boy’s day. Unfortunately in the real world, they’re called adults. It’s bad enough being burdened by adults but suddenly distracted by girls—it makes a guy want to reconsider his priorities. There are still too many wars to be fought and idle hours to figure out to let it all get to you but in time and after your friends have gone, you’ll eventually figure it all out. If you don’t, there are still a few years hanging around after recess is over with—at least for some of us.
