Ray Hawkins is an older, super-successful New Zealand businessman who has reached the pinnacle of prosperity. He is unbelievably wealthy beyond his wildest dreams. Being able to do anything, go anywhere and buy anything helps Ray enjoy an extremely enviable lifestyle. Then one day Ray is diagnosed with a rather nasty brain tumour. His wife, dead in a motor vehicle accident three years earlier; his English Father and Maori Mother have also passed away. Childless and alone he now has the choice of having very risky surgery on the cancer and maybe, just maybe living... or do something spectacular with his time remaining and going out with a bang. Choosing the second option, Ray steps down from his multi-million dollar company and pursues a remarkable and life-changing experience when he goes out into the ocean and of all things, hunts whales. But the reasons for hunting whales are quite unique to Ray. Maybe it’s his tumour making his vision of reality different. Or, maybe Ray’s the only sane one out there. Hundreds of thousands of people agree with him so maybe, just maybe he isn’t as crazy as he first seems.
