Steady As She Goes

"Steady as She" Goes is a memoir of a East Tennessee farm boy who thought bib overalls were the only clothes made for kids until he got to high school. Through unmitigated determination he managed to beat out the next closest contender by a fraction of a point and graduate first in his high school class, thereby receiving a scholarship to The University of Tennessee. Four years later with a B.S. Degree, he was selected to attend the Naval Officer's Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island. Thirty three years later with eight years active duty and twenty five years in the reserves, he retired with the rank of captain. While the book follows a progression of his life only to the extent necessary for continuity, the primary emphasis is on the hundreds of individual stories of exciting adventure and colorful characters that made up his life experience.
