A colorful, historical account of the construction of a 140-mile ditch hand-dug by Chinese workers in the gold fields of eastern Oregon in the late 1800's. The ditch provided water essential to the gold miners of the region and the book describes the sometimes violent conflicts that arose between the miners and farmers over the water the ditch carried.
