Donald Kilpela is a retired U.S. Merchant Marine Officer. In 1981, he and his wife. Elizabeth, discovered an opportunity to buy a small, coastal oil tanker, the M/T MacVie, that had been operating among the Leeward Islands, from Trinidad to Barbuda. Unfortunately, the oil tanker was fraught with new and unexpected challenges.
