Second Sight: The Elixir of Life

Lexy McCoy’s goals are pretty simple. Like most fourteen-year-olds, she just wants to survive high school (preferably with the minimum of humiliation), but that’s hard to do when the whole Quad is talking about the weird dark circles under her eyes, the way she zones out in the middle of class, or her famous parents, one of whom has died in tragic circumstances leaving the other to become a near recluse. Being “normal’ is about to get even more complicated when her late mother’s past brings Lexy face to face with a mysterious secret society, known as the Red Dragon Order. For utterly un-adventurous Lexy, even more troubling than the Order’s past-time (searching for the world’s most powerful supernatural artefacts) is the fact that they want her help. The reason – they believe she possesses a rare gift known as Second Sight – every time Lexy closes her eyes, she can see the past and the memories of the dead. The novel finds Lexy sent on a death-defying mission into the dark heart of the Amazon where she’ll use her paranormal abilities to track down and recover a legendary potion that can, not only prolong youth, but resurrect and restore life, itself. As the teen delves deeper into the workings of the Order, Lexy forms close attachments with some of her fellow “hunters” and becomes increasingly suspicious of others. She discovers her father also has a history with the Order and gets closer to discovering the truth about her mother’s demise, but at what price? In this part-time job, if you screw up you don’t just get fired, you wind up dead!
