Guilt Farm

Four years ago, after decades of self-neglect and weak leadership, our country staggered and fell to its knees. Then came attacks by ruinous acts of sabotage, all planned and carried out by a coalition of Eastern/Mid-eastern powers who were enemies of the West. The invasion of a collapsed country was an easy victory. Millions of people died of starvation and disease. Everything was shut down. Democracy died. Our story, Guilt Farm, opens three years after occupation. Thus begins a deep and very graphic novel about the scars of defeat, the burden of military law, survival under brutal conditions, and a search for the spirit that built a once-proud country. Guilt Farm is a story about 50 people—survivors, now farmers, now family—who must endure winters, military rule, and assaults by a gang whose totem is severed hands darkening in the sun. The occupying army has banned all electronic devices, fuel, firearms, and free travel; they are the law. The army has set up a huge agro-monopoly, Fields of Love, which makes Liquid Love, a fertilizer, in two gigantic steel silos. Some of the people on Guilt Farm advocate passive resistance, but the farm’s leader will not tolerate attacks on the ‘extended ‘family.’ So Carnelian leads the way through the Great Swamp and the Burial Ground, into Field’s guarded compound. Ultimately, the Guilt Farm family will answer the call for pride and action. This story is both plot-driven and character-driven. The graphic scenes and actions are memorable, to say the least. But so too are the characters, whose warmth and courage leave lasting memories about love and dedication.
