Genesis of the Sun

A fictional tale of events following a solar flare, CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) that shuts down the electrical grid on a global scale. The tale begins with Dan, a preparedness enthusiast transplanted from Maryland. He and his family have established a homestead in South Carolina and years after moving there, the sun shuts down the electrical grid with no warning. In the tale, Dan and his friends experience what few are prepared for. But, are they prepared enough? Can technology from the 1800's be successfully mixed with the remains of modern technology?
