Description
Emma's chance meeting with her childhood best friend, Claire, leads to a series of events that trigger nightmares and long forgotten memories. She becomes increasingly uneasy and unable to cope with the fragments of memories that start to resurface. As the mother of three small children, Emma cannot afford to be scattered and distracted.  Emma's need for professional help cannot be made any clearer than when she almost sends one of her children into anaphylactic shock. With encouragement from her husband, Emma seeks the help of her childhood psychiatrist.
Twenty years earlier a young teenager and a beloved dog went missing in a rural area near the Finger Lakes of New York State. No one knows there is a connection between the two except for a traumatized twelve year old. Emma Linden witnessed something so horrific one summer night that she has suppressed the memory.
Emma undergoes controlled age regression, a form of hypnosis, that will fool her mind into re-living the summer when she was twelve. Upon awakening from an early therapy session, Emma catches the scent of her grandmother's signature perfume and the comforting smell of the old family recipe of roast pork and apples, even though she is sitting in the inner sanctum of her doctor's office.  Emma sees these as signs from her deceased grandmother that she is on the right path to the truth.  Emma is prepared to confront the evil that has been haunting her thoughts.
Just when she is ready to challenge her own demons, she finds herself coming to the aide of her friend.  Helping Claire leads Emma to discover the source of her nightmares is closer than she realized.
