Pig Girl or "La Puerca"

Emily feels unattractive and unpopular. How could a nerdy 8th grade girl with very few friends ever be truly happy? She's picked on by the mean "popular" girls. After an embarrassing incident at school the other kids start calling her "Pig Girl". And then a very dangerous boy (the school's worst bully) begins to stalk her and her cousin Sophia. Emily's life is in ruins. When a mysterious figure begins to appear in Emily's dreams at night, things begin to change. Is it possible that her life has good parts that she’s never noticed before? Could her ragged drunken stepfather be different than he seems to be? Could the "popular" kids actually have their own fears and weaknesses? Can anyone actually protect her and Sophia before the bully carries out his terrible threats? Is it possible that in her grandmother’s ancient culture “Pig Girl”, La Puerca, has a meaning that might be the key to everything? Will things end with true friendship, security, and maybe even the love of a kind and handsome boy? Or will it end with a terrifying midnight drive to the hospital’s emergency room?
