Nine months have passed since the end of "Barges," and Beth, now 14, thinks she's growing up. Romance novels have gripped her spirit, and she watches every day for paperboy Hank to drop the daily news on her lawn. When Hank shows interest, inviting her to a concert on the firehouse lawn, her lonely world vaults skyward. But Beth soon finds that having a boyfriend involves more emotional baggage than she bargained for, and that Hank wants to "collect" more than critters in the woods.
