Baby Steps: Redefining the Teen Mom Statistic

At 17, Natasha had just graduated high school and was preparing for her first semester of college when she found out she was pregnant. She recalls when told by a family member that she would have to choose between school and work in order to support her child - “Call it innocence, ignorance, determination and perseverance, but I told her: “Watch Me.”” In the face of all those who doubted her and contrary to all of the teen mom statistics that supported the stereotype that she would never graduate college and end up on welfare for the rest of her life, Natasha managed to accomplish the many goals she had set out for herself. Over the course of the next 17 years, with clear goals in mind and a plan, Natasha would go on to accomplish many feats such as earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, teaching at various levels from preschool to college, help to establish several non-profit organizations, and even author her own parenting blog, among many other achievements.
