Monkeys and MaCawktails: A Memoir

Lots of people have a quarter-life crisis. Erica Hemenway's just also happened to have monkeys. When her girlfriend breaks up with her, Erica responds with what seems to be the most reasonable course of action at the time: she quits her high-paying job, recruits a college friend with problems of his own and signs up to volunteer at an animal rehabilitation center in the Ecuadorian Amazons. In the company of monkeys, parrots and animals known as the “Rat Things,” Erica looks for answers to a whole new set of questions: What causes insomnia in kinkajous? How do capuchins react to men with beards? Can the jungle rehabilitate humans, too? Monkeys and MaCawktails is the story that happens between the halves of the world: north and south, comedic and tragic, animal and human.
