For freelance photographer Kate, there was nothing more magical or full of promise, than Christmas. One, fateful year she, her husband and two children, go to stay at their friend's enormous country estate. It promises to be filled with wine, sparkling company, beautiful dresses and plenty of long walks across the rolling countryside in her Hunter wellies. What she didn’t expect, was that this Christmas would be the catalyst for the unravelling of her life. As a series of hidden secrets and misunderstandings reveal themselves, Kate and the lives of those around her start to crumble. She loses her husband and her oldest and best friends, her daughter is in crisis and she falls in love again just when she can least handle the emotions that it brings out in her. It seems that maybe nothing can be salvaged from the mess that has erupted in all their lives. Until, that is, Kate remembers the power of photography and all that it can give to the people who view the captured moments within any situation. How would it be if everyone could silently witness and understand the pain that went on in one another's lives? Perhaps a little understanding was all it would take. So, persuaded by her son Greg and fuelled with the hope that she can bring the man she loves to her side, Kate begins to do what she always dreamed of doing. She puts together a collection of her most personal photos in a public exhibition and attempts to portray to all those that she loves, the message that there will always be someone to stand next to you, no matter how hard things get.
