Description
Wings on Fire speaks, in verse and song, about my story from 'Curly Top', the little girl who sometimes sat by herself in the school chapel during the breaks. A mischievous, carefree child, she found joy in nature, spending hours in the lime tree and even chasing a snake that did not get the chance to swallow the frog it had caught between its jaws until, finally, the amphibian hopped out to freedom and safety. It tells about her metamorphosis into a being of spirit, the lessons that she learned from life, and ends with songs of devotion to the High Spiritual Teacher. Her wings have been set on fire and her zest for life and passion for the Creator of the universal awe and majesty find expression in her book of poems, Wings on Fire. This spiritual journey is described in the sections: Taking flight, Inspired by Nature, Life's Lessons, Beyond Life, A Ballad and Songs of Devotion. I live life joyously, seeking and finding joy in nature, in relationships, in all of life's experiences, and in my devotion to the Lord. Poetry is the language of my heart and I find expression of the joy I feel through it. In meditation, I escape into what I call my sanctuary where I commune with Karunya. Karunya (meaning 'compassion') is the name I have given my Higher or Spirit Self - the part of me that whispers to my soul, guides my every action, my inner voice. There are two poems in this collection dedicated to Karunya. Rituals have a limited role to play in my life. Spirituality and devotion to the Lord make my life experiences rich and rewarding. Every poem in this collection is a joyous song from my heart and I hope will reach the heart of you, dear reader, and make it sing. This book has become possible because of the encouragement and support of so many people - my family and friends - who have listened to me recite these poems and loved them. My love and grateful thanks to them. I also thank Alison Chisholm, poet & author of several books in the UK, who was my guide and teacher in the poetry writing course of the Writers' Bureau (UK), my publishing consultant, Ms. Mary Aguilar of Partridge Publications, Joe Anderson, my publishing associate
