Reflections From An Old Warrior

Writing poetry really started for me when I volunteered to go to Vietnam as a Door Gunner on a helicopter. Once I got there they tried to make me function as an administrative ‘clerk’. I was so depressed and forlorn that I started to express myself on paper when sitting at the typewriter instead of typing up their stuff. Alas, those early poems didn’t survive though, since that time, this outlet has proven very enlightening about my own internal processes and those of the world around me; it has also enabled me to learn, to listen, accept, love and most importantly – appreciate that the ‘goodness’ within myself as the same ‘goodness’ as is in others.
