Bleak House

Anyone who needs a lawyer should read Bleak House. Dickens’ brilliant and witty tale revolves around the estate of Chesney Wold, where Sir Leicester Dedlock and Honoria live. Honoria – now Lady Dedlock – has been hiding a previous affair from her husband, along the daughter she believes to be dead. It isn’t long before Chancery lawyer Conversation Kenge takes over Esther's future on the instruction of his client, John Jarndyce, who becomes Esther's guardian. Eventualy, Esther moves in with him at Bleak House, along with his wards, Richard Carstone and Ada Clare. The children are beneficiaries in one of the wills at issue in Jarndyce and Jarndyce; their guardian is a beneficiary under another will. In short time, the wills conflict, Richard and Ada fall in love, and Esther reunites with her mother at church.
