Notes from the Underground; London Style

If London is a feast of dishes from all over the world, London Underground is a plate with a tasting of each of those dishes. Lily has used the London Underground for over twenty years. She never thought of the trains as anything more than a form of transport, filled with objects she had to squeeze between. However, with the invention of the internet, Lily's life began to move into her computer. Like most of us she did everything she could on line; shopping, downloading music, movies, books, magazines, newspapers, she kept in touch with her friends and family over the internet. As a result, her 'outside' world shrunk to the point where she felt detached. Fearing that things could get worse unless she applies herself, she looks at her commute (the only thing she couldn't do over the internet) like she's never done before. By 'opening her eyes' Lily discovers that she longs for a world that's all around her. No matter how real virtual world seems it is no replacement for the real world and all its faults and virtues.
