Ranken Phile’s Revolt "It is too late now for me to worry about how I will be treated by this organization. I have lost all respect for it, and that cannot be changed. I do not like this military. I do not like, nor believe in, the chain of command. I have no respect for the officers, or the officer's training. I have no intention of living in a caste or classist system. “I do not recognize the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It is no substitute for the Constitution and my guaranteed inalienable rights. “I haven't the slightest intention of going to Vietnam or any other God forsaken place for any reason. I will defend my country, but I won't give up my freedom and self respect in the process. “Love in any form may truly require sacrifice, but it does not demand humiliation and degradation. I will be treated like an equal. “I am an American. I'll settle for nothing less. I will refuse to sign any paper other than my discharge." "That's too bad, sailor, because you will probably get what you are asking for. You will go to prison and your discharge will be a dishonorable one.”
