The Silver Expressway: A Sci/Fi Fantasy Novel (The Tales of One-Farm-One)

Lord Murkar and his new sidekick Shorty are on a roll using two techniques to gain control of the universe. One is an awesome religion with two things other religions lack; present-day miracles, and immediate retribution for sinners.
