Dwight began to itch his pinky finger against his thumb. The wolf bite had healed completely, leaving only the tiniest of faint scars, but it still prickled and itched. They had run all kinds of clandestine tests on him after that night, filling him up with tetanus shots, rabies shots, ointments, fluids, serums and pills. Obviously no one expected him to start transforming into a wolf, but Dwight could sense that the doctors—as well as his fellow officers—were secretly harbouring that very thought. “I need you to tell me if I get out of line, Gumbs. Watch me. Watch me close, okay?” “You mean in case you start growing fur?” “I mean in case I start acting out of character.” “Howling at the moon, that sort of thing?” “I’m serious, hippy.” “Don’t worry, Pink.
