When Ruby's beloved home, The Valley, mysteriously starts falling apart, her mentor, the Resident Magician Hematite, sends her and her two peers to consult with the monks on the Floating Islands. What originally starts out as a messenger mission, turns out to be a full fledged journey to find the culprit of the attacks being set on her home. But when this basic journey starts making Ruby question her very identity, she finds that her family's secrets may be at the heart of the matter.
