After moving with her mother and brother to Mt. Bhaer, Oregon after her father's death, thirteen-year-old Casey Welch sees a purple light zipping through the streets. She follows it to an impossibly large weeping willow where she finds a journal that sucks her into the home of the quirky Professor Egrius and his magic talking walking cane Canus. As Casey begins learning about the town WISPIN, its residents, and the magic willow wisps, Egrius introduces her to Kamone, the son of renowned archaeologist Lenora Pheerson, the kind healer Ms. Darnley, and her young apprentice Rubienna. But when things start happening in the town taht even the professor can't seem to explain, it seems as if putting themselves in danger's way might be the only way to save WISPIN - and Casey herself may be the town's only hope... if she can first believe in herself.
