Jamie Donovan is a no-hope teenager who can’t cope with personal relationships. She can’t manage school either. With a friend she plays truant and breaks into an abandoned sanitarium. It is not disused and is home to hideous, secret experiments on human beings. Jamie picks up what looks like a pinball at the sanitarium, and her life changes forever as she acquires new powers and sets out on a mission to avenge those who have suffered. There are others with extra powers too, and they are not all on her side. Jamie battles her way through many adventures, including a car chase and a rooftop duel in New York, towards her chief adversary, who she meets in a thrilling showdown. Along the way she finds that she prefers girls to boys, and meets and falls in love with the beautiful Lisa, for whose life she must finally fight. Pinball is poignant and witty, with a wry view on the world. It is the first part of the Wicked Silver trilogy. In the next volume, The Carrier, Jamie encounters the CIA, which is not on her side.
