Sparrow in the Keep is the tale of a medieval castle and the inhabitants, inside and out, who are trying to find their way through life's trials and obligations. Then, as today, both superstition and wisdom weigh in the decisions they make. Will they be able to learn to distinguish between the two? Sparrow is a girl who is not from the castle. She has in fact never seen it. She has been living apart from society, communicating with animals and at one with nature. When a party of royals on a hunting trip arrive in the forest, she decides that her wish to have a child may be within reach. The man she chooses to be the father is the Count of Wilker, newly crowned and already having to make decisions that have to consider the dark forces in the mix. Sparrow might be able to bring the wisdom of nature back into play at the castle, but how will she combine the power of nature and the savvy of society into a useful association? With doses of animal wisdom all along the way, Sparrow in the Keep asks the question: Which are truly more powerful; those with the grandest titles, the greatest lineage and the most intelligence? Or the meek of the earth who are more in touch with the world and its occupants, content in observing and enjoying as life goes by?
