Rob Roy

Of all the writers in the 19th century, the preeminent one was Sir Walter Scott, whose works were so beloved that he had an international fanbase well before he died. The Scotsman is still considered one of the greatest writers of the English language. Rob Roy is a historical novel published in 1817 set just before the Jacobite Rising in 1715. The novel is considered a very realistic depiction of Scotland in the early 18th century.
