Darkness in the Light of Day: The Life Cycle of a Suicidal Executive

The following is the story, in my own words, of my struggle and continuing struggles with depression. You will not find statistics or studies within these pages, should you be looking. This is about raising awareness through the eyes of someone dealing with the disease of depression and sharing my personal experiences. I am not a writer, and I am not a victim, I suffer from depression. I am someone attempting to create a new and productive life while managing depression. A lot of what you will read will include notes taken out of a log that I kept while trying to capture and make sense out of the many dark days that be felled me. I will not alter the words of these notes as they were jotted down. They may seem garbled or may not make total sense to you, the reader, but it will give you perhaps a better understanding of what goes on in the mind during the lowest of lows. Please note that I am not an expert in treating depression but will share, where appropriate, the different tools that I have been taught or devised myself to cope and become more productive with every passing week. A good friend of mine, Robin Bender gave me this piece of advice. "Do not over analyze what you are trying to write but to let the words and thoughts flow." So, as you read through this book keep in mind that the intent was to open myself up as I was previously, and currently am, dealing with depression. My experience with depression has led me to become an advocate for change in how we deal with mental health in the work place and to talk openly to anyone willing to listen about my experience. This book is just another avenue for awareness.
