This is the sixth book written by the author on the subject of Misconceptions, Fallacies and False Beliefs in Popular Lore. Unlike the previous volumes, which encompass several genres, 'Faux Past: 35 World-Famous Events That Most Likely Never Happened' is limited in scope to history. As the title suggests, the focus is on certain world events that, though popularly regarded as true, have left cynics, revisionists and iconoclasts—as well as lawyers like the author—unconvinced about their authenticity. Despite their apparent lack of integrity, however, the 35 major events listed in the book, with settings that range from the Graeco-Roman period to the modern age, are believed to have had some bearing on the way we live today. Each covering chapter describes an event and discusses why the author deems it worthy of a second look from professional historians and enthusiasts. The accompanying artwork is a series of excellent compositions by Dennis Raymond Ferry.
