The Frankish-Moorish War of 718 to 759 has been seen as part of a much larger conflict between Islam and Christianity, between East and West, and between two very different civilizations; each with its own set of values, beliefs, prejudices and accomplish-ments. One source sees the conflict as two separate wars; yet another sees it as two of three different waves of Muslim expansion from what is now Spain into what is now France. While the war may arguably be part of all of those clashes, it was also a separate and distinct conflict defined by time, space and the natures of the two main combatants. This book is an academic work. It is heavily footnoted and has an extensive bibliography.
