The Security of the State is the function of State Security, functionaries of the State are there to Secure that function. But what happens when you are a functionary of a State, which is not the State you are working in or for? What if the interest of your State are not always in the interest of the State for which you work, and you are not sure any more which is which or what to do, and getting it wrong will cost not just your life, but that of many other people as well? That is the dilemma for the deep covert operative, that is the problem facing J.C Criftin, in this factionalised series of the End of the Cold War, we follow the troubles facing just a few of the many dedicated servants that gave, Life, Limb and Mind in the service for Queen and Country.
