The Scribes Of Seely II: A Seely School Anthology

This second anthology of children’s writing emerges from an eight week, Big Lottery funded project called Brilliant Books. It follows on from the first group which produced the original anthology – the Scribes of Seely – published before Christmas. In the endless winter of 2015 a team of highly successful people, including a top steampunk writer, a Masai poet and the chief executive of Nottingham City Council, were invited to visit Seely Primary School in Nottingham to enthuse school children with a love of reading, literacy and above all, books. Great books. Alongside specialist staff, writers, mentors, support workers and the teachers themselves, sixteen children were exposed to some of the greatest books for young people of the modern era, delivered to them with passion and enthusiasm from successful people who credit reading with being one of THE fundamental reasons for their success. Then, the young people went away and wrote a short story. The stories are contained in this anthology; the Scribes of Seely II. This project was supported by the Big Lottery Fund and was delivered alongside Empleo, a Community Interest Company passionate about reading and helping those facing disadvantage.
