Our 73-year Love Affair

The marriage of Bernard and Elaine Berman ("Sonny" and "Ellie" to their family and friends) is a true story both unique and yet familiar, especially to those who fell in love and/or married during or shortly after WWII, and who raised their families in the newly-developed suburbs of the 1950s. But it is also familiar to those who have cared for a loved one afflicted with Alzheimer's, that cruel and unrelenting disease that not only threatens the victim's very personality, but also challenges the patience and emotional resources of the loving spouse and family. Here, Bernard Berman recounts his and Elaine's 73-year love affair with great affection and nostalgia.
