Oh, That's Education?: Observations from a decade in the classroom

Oh, That’s Education is a collection of observation from my development as a teacher through a decade that saw smartphones, tablets, interactive whiteboards, and social media enter the classroom. It is a series of stories and takeaways from my experiences in a small parochial high school, a large traditional public high school, and an innovative STEM platform high school. I hope to shed light on some of my personal misconceptions (that I have seen in other novice educators as well) and offer insights into breaking the chains of inhibitive paradigms. I was inspired to begin writing after a major event in my professional and personal life that prompted me to evaluate everything I was doing. Though I was well studied and had a community of insightful, inspirational, and expert mentor teachers around me, it took nearly a decade in the classroom before I really understood the "why" and "how" of teaching. It is my hope that Oh, That’s Education will inspire and foster new perspectives for educators, administrators, legislators, and parents.
