The people are real. All the situations and most of the events are real. This narrative nonfiction is written in novel form to document the lives of children placed into often brutal adult level competition, taking readers through the resulting emotional consequences. Like child actors and athletes, musical child prodigies often pay a heavy price for their stardom. Composited from two real life soloists this novel is written by a family member. The book received high marks (“mechanically perfect”) by judges in a publishers’ contest, resulting in placement with an agent and a year in editorial boards at Penguin.
