Description
William Makepeace Thackeray was a prominent English writer during the Victorian era. Thackeray was best known for his novels which greatly satirized English society. Thackeray's most famous novels are The Luck of Barry Lyndon and Vanity Fair, the latter of which is considered a classic in English literature and has been adapted into many films. Vanity Fair tells the story of two women, Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley. Becky is a strong-willed and ambitious young woman who is trying to rise in society while her friend Amelia is more calm and is a member of a wealthy family. The title Vanity Fair, which comes from John Bunyan's book The Pilgrim's Progess, refers to a stop along the pilgrim's route at a fair that never ends.
