Flute Solos: Through the Works of J.S. Bach, Level 1

Experience Bach in a new way! These arrangements present traditional works in combination with modern sonorities. The focus of this volume is the expansion of melodic materials that build sequentially using two works of J.S. Bach: "Gavotte BWV 808" and "Minuet in G Major BWV Anhang 114." Three variations for the flute are offered for each piece including an abridged melodic line, the traditional melody, and a quasi-jazz melody. Piano accompaniments for the three variations may be interchanged. A free flute solo part is available for download online. Flutist and composer Dona Gilliam received her Bachelor of Music degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA and her masters in Music Composition from the University of Kentucky, Lexington where she also received her Juris Doctorate of Law degree. Dona performs and composes in both folk and classical genres. She is currently a Professor in the School of Music and School of Media Arts and Design at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. With Mizzy McCaskill, she has co-authored numerous Mel Bay books addressing the flute, tinwhistle, fife, and clarinet.
