Main Idea, Grades 3 - 4: Using Topics and Details to See the Big Picture (Basic Skills)

The activities in Main Idea--Grade 3-4 include high-interest reading selections with activities that teach and reinforce the concepts of main idea, topic, topic sentence, and supporting details. With a variety of fun and instructional formats, teachers can provide direct instruction, reinforcement, or independent practice throughout the year. When possible, lessons are linked to other curriculum areas such as math, science, social studies, and language arts. With this format, Main Idea also offers students the opportunity to learn and practice skills such as critical thinking, comprehension, and writing in an enjoyable and creative format. Review pages are also included to assess and reinforce student learning.
