Control of infiltration and Inflow in Private Building Sewer Connections

As the integrity of sewer systems begins to deteriorate due to old age, poor design, lack of maintenance, and budget restrictions, the system's ability to transport wastewater to treatment facilities is causing a number of problems. Although it is recognized that public sewer mains are becoming older and are subject to infiltration/inflow, private building sewer connections, just as old as the mains, are ignored and receive little or no maintenance and inspection. This monograph focuses on private building sewer connections and helps system operators to better understand the effects of infiltration/inflow coming from them. A nationwide survey of sewer system overflow is presented and discussed.
