Women Who Take Care: Choosing to Live With Wisdom, Grace, and Power After Fifty-Five

Lou Dunn Diekemper wanted to know how elder women feel about themselves in a youth-oriented culture. She wanted to know their views about aging, death, loss, life's enriching experiences, and their feelings about the importance of their lives.

So she embarked upon asking such questions of women across the United States. Now she presents the results of her study in a very clear, upbeat, and beautifully evocative outline of the role of the elder woman in American society and includes the results of her interviews and surveys of over 250 women, ages 55 and older, regarding their health, outlook, attitudes, beliefs, accomplishments, self-esteem, and self-views.

"Women Who Take Care" emphasizes the increasing possibilities that are open to elder women, explores the critical issues facing aging women and their self-view in terms of body, mind, and spirit, and encourages women to make active and creative choices for their lives as they come "of age."
