The Eternal Soul: A History, A Diatribe

The Eternal Soul is a history of the co-evolution of science and religion from Neo-Platonism to the present. It culminates by proposing that the philosophical views on time presented by Plotinus and St Augustine, later ratified by the Theory of Relativity, can be applied to explain how the human soul can affect the workings of the human body whose actions are governed by the laws of science. Believing in a soul that exists detached from the body and outside of our perception of time affords a compromise between the impossibly romantic notions of human free will and the cold determinism of the natural world.
