What would possess a man to kill his only son? In the case of Frank Bryan, a wealthy and powerful man heavily involved in illegal activities, it was distrust and race. On a cold Christmas Eve in 1978, Annette Baker and Nathan Bryan have just announced their engagement, and they believe it is a time for celebration. Unknown to the happy couple, Frank Bryan s illegal activities include dealings with Annette s father, the pastor of a local church, who has gotten caught up in Mr. Bryan s money laundering activities. As the couple is walking along the banks of the Cumberland River planning their future, they have no idea what is in store for them. When Annette s body is discovered the following spring, the little town of Smithland, Kentucky, will be changed forever, and the local sheriff, who was on Frank Bryan s payroll, will pay for his wrongdoings when the FBI comes to town to investigate Mr. Bryan.
