Stretching from Saint Paul, Minnesota to Seattle Washington, the great northern railway is the only privately funded transcontinental railroad to be successfully built in the history of America. Created in the 1880s by James J. Hill, a 19th century railroad tycoon, the railway ultimately merged with other companies to form what is now the BNSF Railway. (14 × 22 inches, open)
