Mobile Suit Gundam Ecole du Ciel Volume 1

A father goose said to his child: "You were suppose to be a swan, so why are you still ugly?" The mother goose said, "It can't be helped." The child goose replied, "I'm a goose. Why can't I remain a goose?" The father goose said, "We received an egg from a swan. You were supposed to be a swan." The year is 0085 of the Universal Century. Asuna Elmarit is a student at the Mobile Suits military academy called "Ecole du Ciel." Asuna is the lowest in the class, and her nickname among her classmates is "Dame dame-chan (Can't do anything girl)." But with the help of her best friends Emilu Voigtlander and Shin Barnack, Asuna trains vigorously on her own in simulation rooms and does physical training. During her self-training, Asuna reveals to Shin that she was given high expectations from her father even before she was born. Asuna's father was a former professor at the National Defense University, but was expelled from it, and he is now in a foreign country in hiding. Meanwhile, Professor Forma has been secretly observing Asuna and the other students to report back to an organization called the "council." The "council" is the overseer of Ecole du Ciel, and they have ulterior motives for supervising the school; they built the school in order to raise and seek out potential "new types." The "council" believes that "new types" emerge when an individual is placed in extreme anxiety during combat. During a battle simulation one day, Asuna and Professor Yahagi discover that the weapons they carry hold actual weapons. Yahagi senses that the switch in weapons was not an accident, and it was actually the "council's" plan. After seeing Yahagi help Asuna evacuate, the students start to spread a rumor that Yahagi is a "new type."
