Back in the early 1920's, a girl named Elizabeth Anne Stockwell is born to two well to do parents, but Elizabeth is no ordinary girl. By the time she was ten, she had been prone to outbursts of anger and fits of maniacal rage that doctors couldn't explain. Believing that her condition was caused by the Devil, she is ultimately sent to one of the worst hospitals in the country, Espedrella State Hospital. Her only escape from the constant torture that was her treatment was writing. Legend has it that when Elizabeth died suddenly in the hospital her evil spirit became one with the book she loved to write in. Many years later, the book finds its way into the hands of a group of New England friends. Soon after, Jacob Schwartz commits suicide and days later Al Tremblay is accused of killing his best friend Dave Nelson. Nothing seems right until Tom Malone and his girlfriend Kim Houle uncover Elizabeth's diabolical secret. A secret hidden in the pages of a book that has the ability to possess those who read it. When Kim herself becomes the target of the book's demonic influence Tom must race against time and the powerful forces of evil. Can Tom save the girl he loves and ultimately destroy the book forever or will it consume his soul as well?
