Reprint edition of this central document in colonial American history dealing with Indian relations and the wars of the early eighteenth century, written by a political and religious New Hampshire leader. Penhallow's record of "memorable occurrences" consisted largely of a "narrative of tragical incursions perpetrated by bloody pagans, who are monsters of . . . cruelty . . . . Who are as implacable in their revenge, as they are terrible in the execution of it; and will convey it down to the third and fourth generation." As such it remains an essential contemporary account of strife with the natives and of their eventual "submission."
