Description

I was the eldest of three children brought up in a loving home, having strong ties to both my parents' families. We lived in Victoria, Australia, until my early teens, when my father decided he wanted to become an orchardist in Tasmania. My mother's family came from a small town in Tasmania, so in a way she was going home. This brought us closer to my grandmother, Hannah Amelia Holbrook, who was born a Gillam. She first married William Eaves and they resided in Waterloo, the village mentioned in this book. She wrote a book and had it published under the name "Parson Joe," which had limited success. She wrote several other manuscripts that she never got around to typing out before she died of lung cancer at the age of 53. Her scripts were given into my care. I married in my late teens, but with six children to bring up, never had the time to write. When my children grew up, I published my own book on the history of country football clubs in Southern Tasmania. Now retired, I finally had the time to look at my grandmother's scripts. I was impressed and added to her first book, giving it a different title. I updated it and put in more romance, sex, and drama. I think she would be very proud of the end result. I'm only sorry that neither she nor my parents are alive to see the finished book, but I hope they are with me in spirit. In our collaborative novel Where the Wild Daffodils Grow, the Cavender family experiences romance and violence, spanning the years 1800s through the 1950s in a small country village in Tasmania.
