Walks Through History: Kent

The walks in this book take you through the rich and varied history of Kent, from the mysterious Coldrum stones to the magnificent Dover Castle, from the grandeur of Rochester Cathedral to the splendid Tudor mansions of Knole and Penshurst. On the way, the countryside of Kent is revealed in all its natural beauty, from the North Downs through the Weald and down to the White Cliffs. The walks have been arranged chronologically, each walk having a major historical theme, and together they take the walker through 4,000 years of Kentish history. John Wilks has been a professional historical guide and a history teacher, and is a branch secretary of the Historical Association. He is also an enthusiastic member of the Ramblers’ Association and has written a number of walking books with historical themes.
