Driver Adaptation to Information and Assistance Systems

Driver Adaptation to Information and Assistance Systems brings together recent work by the Marie-Curie co-funded Initial Training Network project ADAPTATION, which has studied drivers’ behavioral adaptation to new driver information and assistance technologies.

The book provides the reader with: a better understanding of drivers’ adaptation processes following information and assistance system use at different levels (regulatory level, cognitive level, motivational level); perspectives to distinguish the short-, medium- and long-term effects of technology use on drivers’ behavior; an appreciation of the impact of age as a driver characteristic on technology use and skill acquisition; and research on the effects of the system’s performance and the level of automation as important system characteristics influencing drivers’ adaptation.

Driver Adaptation to Information and Assistance Systems will be of interest to academics working in behavioral adaptation to new technologies, as well as professionals in automotive companies and equipment manufacturers, product designers and suppliers, government transport and safety agencies, and road safety managers.
