Landscapes are continually changing as a result of human intervention in natural processes. Both intensive and extensive land uses are expressed in the structure of the land, the size of the parcels and the area of natural and semi-natural vegetation that is present. The task facing ecologists, conservationists, planners, decision-makers and others involved with these changes is to find the best methods for maintaining landscape diversity.
